Dinesty Host is a tool for restaurant staff. It runs the floor: tables, reservations, the waitlist, and the regulars a restaurant already knows. This page explains what the app stores, who can see it, and what we never do with it.

Two kinds of people appear in this app

The distinction matters, because our responsibilities differ for each.

The restaurant owns its guest information. Staff enter it, the restaurant decides what to keep, and we hold it on the restaurant’s behalf and act on its instructions. If you dined somewhere and want to know what they hold about you, contact the restaurant directly — they can see, correct and delete it themselves, and we will help them do so.

What the app stores

Crash reports and usage counts

To find and fix problems, the app sends us two kinds of technical information. Neither contains a guest’s name, phone number, email or notes.

Crash reports

When something goes wrong in the app, it sends a report to Sentry, a service that collects them for us and stores them in the European Union (Germany). A report says what failed and where: the screen, the error, the app version, the device model and its system version, which restaurant it happened at, your role, and a code that stands for your account instead of your name or email. Anything typed into a search is removed before a report leaves the device. Sentry keeps reports for up to 90 days.

Usage counts

The app records which screens are opened and which actions are taken — a reservation made, a table seated, a guest added to the waitlist — so we can see what is used, what is slow and what goes wrong. Each record carries a random code for the device, the restaurant, your role, the app version, and the device’s system and language. It carries no names, no guest details and nothing you type. These records go to Dinesty’s own servers in Frankfurt and are never shared.

What we do not do

Where it is kept, and for how long

Information is stored on servers in Frankfurt, Germany, operated by Amazon Web Services on our behalf. It is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers.

A restaurant’s records stay for as long as the restaurant uses Dinesty Host. When a restaurant leaves, we delete its data within 90 days. A restaurant can delete individual guest records at any time from within the app, and can ask us to remove everything sooner.

Deleted information can stay in our encrypted database backups until those backups expire. Automatic backups expire after 7 days; the few copies we take by hand before a major upgrade are kept longer and deleted once they are no longer needed.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app: open the account menu, then Your details → Delete my account. You sign in once more to confirm it’s you, and the account is deleted straight away. You can also write to privacy@dinestyapp.com from the address you sign in with, and we will delete it within 30 days.

Deleting your account removes your sign-in (it is the same Dinesty account the Dinesty app for diners uses), your place on every restaurant’s team, the name the restaurant’s screens show for you and the days you last used the app. The restaurant’s own records — reservations, guests and service history — belong to the restaurant and stay with it. More detail: Delete your account.

Who else is involved

We keep this list short deliberately. These are the only outside services the app depends on:

ServiceWhat it doesWhat it sees
Amazon Web Services Runs our servers and database Everything the app stores, held on our behalf in Frankfurt
Dinesty sign-in Checks who you are when you sign in Staff email and password. Run by us, on our own servers
Sentry Collects crash reports so we can fix them The crash report described above, stored in the European Union. No guest information, and no staff names or emails
Expo Delivers app improvements without a store update Device type, app version and a random code for the install. No guest or staff information
Apple, Google Distribute the app Whatever their own app stores record about an install

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. You can also ask for a copy in a portable form, or object to how it is used. Write to us and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are a restaurant guest, the fastest route is the restaurant itself, since they control their own records. We will always help a restaurant answer such a request.

Children

Dinesty Host is a workplace tool for restaurant staff. It is not designed for or directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information about them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app itself.
